What are you seeking in life?
Many of us spend our lives looking for worldly satisfaction and success. We judge our significance by our material possessions, financial circumstances or job titles. Yet these measures seem to leave us feeling empty and still looking for greater happiness.
God knows what we need. He promises to satisfy us if we seek to know Him and adjust our lives to His will. If we strive to walk with Him and help to fulfill His mission in this world, we will find our true significance.
Where is God in your life?
There are times when we all feel like God is nowhere to be found. This is particularly true when we are experiencing confusion, fear, hurt or disappointment. But God is always beside us. He is always at work in our lives, whether we see Him or not. His invitation to talk to Him, to love Him, to commune with Him is open. God has a desire to build a unique relationship with each of us.
How do you get to know God?
- Read the Bible. The Bible is God’s word to all of us. As you read God’s book, you will begin to discover your purpose and your place in His story. You will learn about God’s works, His mercy, His love, His son Jesus Christ, and the ultimate gift of eternal life that God has given to us. Start by reading the New Testament books of John, Acts and Romans.
- Pray. Ask God to reveal Himself to you if you’re not sure He’s there. You will find that, as you pray to God and truly seek Him, He will open Himself to you. He will bring you into His presence. God may not give you the answers you want to hear, but He is always working in your life and wanting to build a relationship with you.
Here are additional suggestions to guide you in your efforts to build an authentic relationship with God:
- Talk to people who display a genuine relationship with God.
- Spend time in nature observing and experiencing God’s creation.
- Visit a Christian bookstore and look for books that interest you.
- Ask others who have an obvious relationship with God to recommend books to you.
- Find a church offering a safe environment where you can ask questions.
- Keep a journal of your thoughts and feelings during your search.
